As part of my compositional search to answer the question, “where does music itself come from?”, I’ve developed a practice of transcribing the rhythms of speech. These transcriptions yield a wealth of information about how people move together in time consciously and unconsciously and this, to me, is an authentic place for music to begin. For Ricochet, I transcribed the rhythms of a particular auctioneer and worked with them to create the piece.
This piece is an arrangment of "Ricochet Piano" written for Guy Livingston. Recording Zeitgeist included this piece on their CD Here and Now
